When working from home, either freelance or with flexitime, productivity is very important. Effective productivity means you will earn more money or save more time, whichever is more important to you. The good news is, it isn’t difficult to improve your productivity. Below are the best ways to get the most out of your working day.
Plan
There are two types of people in this world: planners and non-planners. Non-planners don’t worry about what needs to be done, they just get to work and take breaks when they get tired. There is no method to their work flow, and no organisation.
If this sounds appealing to you then maybe you are a non-planner. The trouble is there is no way to tell how much you can get done. You might also lose out on some productivity because you’re not motivated enough or you spend too much time on a break.
Set Goals
Once again, setting goals may not be for everyone, but the truth is that setting goals can accelerate your productivity and your levels of success. Without goals you won’t know when you have reached your targets, but with them, everything can be measured.
It’s up to you what kind of goals you set. You might set one for time, or for output, like at the law firm Zarwin Baum. Setting a goal gives you something concrete to work towards and enables you to measure your progress.
Exercise
You might think that exercising is counterproductive instead of actively productive. Won’t you have to take time out of your day to hit the home-gym or the park for a run. It’s true that exercising takes time out of your busy schedule but it also significantly contributes to your output.
When you feel fit and healthy you are also more productive, not less. When you exercise you wake up your brain and body. All the chemicals and hormones in your brain and body are shaken up and you feel more focused and energetic.
Rest
Once again, the idea of resting seems to be unproductive. If you have a big workload on why would you suddenly go to sleep for half an hour, or read a book? The secret is, renewed productivity on the back of a little downtime.
If you’re working and you start to feel drowsy and tired, is it best to work on even if the quality of the work suffers, or take a lay down for a short time and come back brighter and more energetic. The same goes with reading. Take yourself out of the zone for a short time.
Prioritize
Prioritizing is a biggy. This is closely connected to planning, but it’s more related to your workload than your time and lifestyle. You need to decide what tasks are most important and arrange them so you get them done first. You might also do the most important task at times of the day when you have the most energy, to ensure you output the best quality of work.
