It was another spectacular year.
Generally, my investments are divided into three parts:
- 1/3 U.S.
- 1/3 Canada
- 1/3 International.
For the US par, a great chunk of my Money is in the S&P 500. The return of the S&P 500 was 27%.
For the Canadian index, the return was about 21%
And the International index, MSCI EAFE index went up about 8%. The MSCI EAFE Investable Market Index (IMI), is an equity index that captures large, mid, and small-cap representation across Developed Markets countries* around the world, excluding the US and Canada.
Every time I talk to my friends and family about the stock market, most of them think it’s a scam. I have a few friends who have listened and I held their hand all the way to financial independence. The ones who haven’t listened, they are still working full time and thinking about whether real estate would be the best way to go. The answer is NO! the best way to go is to invest in the stock market.
The major averages posted double-digit returns this year, as the global economy began its recovery from the 2020 Covid lockdowns. 2021 was another exceptional year for U.S., Canadian, and International equity markets.
The stellar year for stocks came even as the Covid pandemic rages on, with variants like delta and, more recently, omicron leading to case outbreaks throughout the year.
Next year, 2022, I will follow the same strategy. I am hoping for double-digit returns.
My total return for 2021 was 19%
My total return for 2020 was 7.88
My total return for 2019 was 20.30
My total return for 2018 was -9.54
Net worth
My net worth increase during the year 2021 by $150,000. About 10% of this increase was due to the sale of a real estate property and 90% due to the great year we had in the stock market.
