It should come as a little surprise that proper safety gear is one of the things that should be high on your list of priorities. When you have your employees in high risk outdoor environments you should give them protective gear.

These may include but should not be limited to hard hats, gloves, and ear protection. In some cases, you may have to provide high visibility parkas to ensure that workers are easily seen by others, especially around heavy equipment or any areas where there is vehicles or traffic. This makes it easier to prevent accidents. 

Conduct Regular Safety Training 

Safety training should be more than just an orientation requirement. You should have regular training sessions with your employees. Make sure you always have the latest safety protocols and procedures ready for training.. 

You can use these training sessions to show them the proper handling of equipment, emergency procedures and personal safety practices as well. Tailor your training so that it fits into the unique needs of your particular workplace.

Create a Safety First Culture 

Practicing a safety culture starts at the very top of your business. Management should model safety behaviours and encourage open discussion about safety concerns that their employees may have. This approach lets your employees speak up when they see potential hazards and they will not be afraid to suggest improvements.

Regularly recognizing and rewarding those employees who adhere to and promote safety standards is something that you should definitely consider doing. Conduct Routine Safety Inspections 

Safety hazards are expected in some industries. By making specific inspections a part of the routine life of your business you are securing your employees. Make sure you appoint a safety officer or have a team responsible for conducting these inspections. 

During these inspections you should look at work areas, tools as well as equipment. Look out for any wear and tear on any machine that your employees use regularly. Poor lighting and a bad floor layout are also hazards and you should try to find these areas of concern by doing your inspections. When you find loopholes, fix them.
