Episode #100 was only one year ago. Now a year has past and we are already celebrating episode #200.
Due to Covid-19, we are not doing a live event like last year, but I want to take the opportunity to say THANK YOU!!!
Podcasting schedule
From the beginning of the podcast, I was hoping to do one episode per week. To get to the first 100 episodes, it took me about two years.
But with Covid-19 I had some extra time on my hands and I have been publishing about three episodes per week.
I think I will continue doing about three episodes per week until life goes back to normal, at that point I will resume a regular social life and I will have less time to podcast.
My podcasting process
Every morning I spend about one hour looking for people to interview. I generally interview authors of books in the fields of entrepreneurship, economics, and personal development.
My goal is to send three emails every morning. I generally start by looking at the Amazon book store and the New York Times book session. I glance at the list, I pick three titles I like and I try to hunt for the email address of the authors.
Some times I find the address right away, some times I have to do a little bit of digging. If the author has gone out of his way to hide their email address, I don’t bother. There are too many authors who would appreciate a bit of extra exposure, why bother with those who don’t want to be contacted.
Of course, no all of them answer, but enough answer to keep a steady stream of guests and podcast episodes going.
After they accept, I try to read as much as possible from their books. I cheat a little bit. I read the first chapter of their book that they offer through their website or that Amazon makes available, for free.
I try to keep the episodes about 30 minutes long, give and take 10 minutes. I add the intro and outro music, I create the show notes, I publish the episode and then I share it on all the social media.
Monetization
I don’t have any podcast sponsor nor advertisers, but when I promote their books with my amazon affiliate link and people buy the book with my link, I earn anywhere from $0.60 to $1.00.
It’s safe to say that I am not podcasting for the money. At the same time, I know that as the podcast continues to grow, the income will come.
The growth of the podcast
The podcast has continued to grow, slowly but steadily. I am getting about 1,000 downloads per month, plus about two thousand YouTube views per month. This is giving me a total exposure of over three thousand, plus another three thousand visits to my website. In general, I feel very grateful for the attention. At the same time, I know that this is just the beginning and that it will continue growing.
All in all, I am so grateful for your time and patience and I hope you will stick around for another 100 episodes.
