204 Nour Hadidi; From Banking To Stand Up Comedian

Nour Hadidi, is a comedian, writer, Arab, Muslim girl based in Toronto.

In a family where everyone is a doctor, she always gets funny looks when she says she is a comedian.

Nour Hadidi came to Canada to study finance at McGill. She graduated with a BCom and worked in banking for a while, but she got tired of sitting in her cubicle and decided to give comedy a try.

While at work, she felt chained to her desk. When she studying for another certificate to advance her career, she started going to comedy nights to fight stress. She felt so intrigued by comedy that one day she decided to pick up the microphone and give it a try. She fell in love with the experience.

No one one gets into comedy for the money, but she felt alive when she was in front a crowd. This is an experience that no financial statement at her job could compete with.

After feeling frustrated because she was not advancing fast enough in her career as a banker, she decided to take the plunge and move to Toronto.

In Quebec, she felt discriminated against because her French was not Quebecois enough. In Toronto, she felt more welcomed because a great part of the city is composed of immigrants and people can speak other languages without being blacklisted.

Nour Hadidi never expected to make a full-time living as a comedian/writer, but she has been featured on CBC News, FLARE Magazine, and Reader’s Digest 50 Comedians to watch.

There is nothing in her comedy that would impress her family, except that she is happy and she makes people laugh, that has to count for something, right? She recorded a half-hour special with Comedy Central Arabia in 2018. She was a staff writer on two seasons of This Hour has 22 Minutes and she also wrote for The Beaverton on the Comedy Network.
