Norway’s beach handball players were each fined 150 euros for not wearing bikinis.
The male organizers of the Olympics, want women to wear bikinis, while men get to wear shorts. How come men are not wearing speedos?
How is this not sexism?
The Norwegians wore regulation-sized black bikini bottoms through most of the Beach Handball Euro 2021 tournament, but they pulled a last-minute switch ahead of their final match. The women walked out in tight-fitting blue athletic shorts, drawing cheers from the crowd and anger from the European Handball Federation (EHF), which fined all 10 players for a total penalty of 1,500 euros.
The International Handball Federation requires women to wear bikini bottoms “with a close fit and cut on an upward angle toward the top of the leg.” The sides of the bikini bottoms must be no more than four inches. Men, on the other hand, can wear shorts as long as four inches above their knees as long as they are “not too baggy.”
The reason for that stupid rule is because The International Handball Federation wants women to be showing their ass for the entertainment of the male audience. There is no other reason.
Norway’s team has been unhappy with the dress code, they wanted to point out the double standard for female athletes. The players wore shorts for Sunday’s bronze medal game against Spain at the European Beach Handball Championships in Varna, Bulgaria.
The Norwegian women had asked for permission to swap out the bikini bottoms for shorts ahead of the tournament, citing the players’ preference to wear something less revealing and more comfortable. The women also pointed out that the outfits make it hard to attract new players to the sport in Norway and abroad.
The head of the Norwegian Handball Federation, said the organization would pay the fine. He said Norway had repeatedly complained about the bikini bottom requirement to the international federation since 2006. “Nothing has happened,” he said.
Female athletes have spoken out against the double standards for their uniforms many times in recent decades. Women are required to wear more revealing outfits in several sports, including track and field, beach volleyball, and tennis. In 2011, the Badminton World Federation decreed that women must wear skirts or dresses to play at the elite level in order to help revive flagging interest in women’s badminton.

Can you please stop the forced bikini nonsense at your beach handball games?
It is embarrassing, disgraceful and sexist.
You are ruining both the sport and your own reputation.

@ihf_info Will you PLEASE tell us why it is necessary for the female beach handball players to wear bikini briefs? Why are the shorts the Norwegian team wore deemed unlawful? And why are the men allowed to wear regular shorts instead of Speedos? #Equality #misogyny

Pop star P!nk offers to pay fines for Norwegian athletes fined for wearing shorts instead of bikini bottoms
Pop star P!nk has offered to pay the fines handed to the Norwegian women’s beach handball team who were charged for not wearing bikini bottoms during the European Beach Handball Championships, she Tweeted on July 24. The Norway Handball Federation also offered to pay the fines for the team and supported the team’s decision. Germany’s gymnastics team wore full-body suits during qualifications in Tokyo, in a protest against the sexualization of women in the sport
