Every women deserves the right to have autonomy over the bodies. The United States is one of the few industrialized countries where that right in not guaranteed for all its citizens.
Abortion is Legal in both Canada, and Mexico, making both both neighbors more forward looking than the United States.
But the voters of Kansas had an opportunity to reclaim the right of abortion and maintain the dignity and autonomy of its women.
Kansas voters resoundingly decided against removing the right to abortion from the State Constitution.
The defeat of the antiabortion side was clear. The count was 59 to 41 percent. The voters of Kansas will not tolerate extreme bans on abortion. Although republicans are generally aligned with the anti abortion movement, this time was different. A number of voters said they were registered Republicans but opposed the more intrusions on women’s rights.
I dare to predict that with time, there will be more states where abortion will be legal, and eventually, the United States will respect women’s rights, like all the other industrialized countries.
