How to overcome impostor syndrome

As a podcaster, every time I take the microphone, I am battling my impostor syndrome
Every time I do a podcast, I have to battle with my impostor syndrome

In business, everyone is making things up as they go along. The business playing field changes so fast that no one has either the experience or a playbook about how to act.

Just by you realize that no one knows what they are doing, that’s already a huge step to get rid of your impostor syndrome and self-doubt.

I suffer from impostor syndrome every day. My dream is to be a podcaster and to entertain and add value to my audience, but I question myself every day. Am I good enough to do this? Is my English good enough? Do I know enough about that subject or the other one to have a conversation? People are going to make fun of my accent. I use too many sound crutches and sound fillers. My ideas are not clear enough. And on and on. I don’t stop over guessing myself.

But guess what? Every week, in spite of my insecurities, I produce a podcast. And little by little my impostor syndrome is going away.

You can do the same. Face your fear, face that thing that you are afraid of doing, and do it.

Yes, you will probably will never be as good as you would like to be, but every day that you do your art, every day that you practice your craft, you will get better, and your impostor syndrome will shrink. And one day you will be considered they leader in your field, and people will look up to you, and you will be consider as the person who know what she is doing, and you will believe it yourself, and maybe that day, your impostor syndrome will disappear.

Until you get rid of your impostor syndrome, here are three tips to help you move forward.

Recall your victories

You have felt insecurities before and you have overcome those insecurities. The first day you arrived at your college, you probably felt fear and insecurities, and by the time you finished, you felt that you were in control.

I am sure that you have gone through the same process over and over again. The fear, the insecurities, and then the mastery or at the very least, some level of comfort and confidence.

I keep two dairies. One for my financial progress and another one for my blogging progress. On each page, I see nothing but my fears and securities of the past, yet I am full of pride to see how I have grown and how I continue to move forward.

Today, I still feel uncertain about the future, but I find comfort in the knowledge that I have been through these uncertainties every year, and every year I manage to grow, intellectually and psychologically. The future will be a bit of the same.

Take action to overcome your insecurities

In my case, as a podcaster, I feel that I speak with guests way above my level of intellect. The only thing I can do to overcome my insecurity is by working a little bit harder, doing a bit more research until the moment of the interview arrives.

In your case, it could be to seek more training, to see a mentor, to study more. Whatever it is, there is always something you can do to face your fear. And every time you face your fear, it will lose a bit more of its grip over you.

Share your insecurities with others

I am quite open to sharing my fears and insecurities. It makes me stronger, not weaker. It gives me the ability to ask for help when I am overwhelmed.

If you share your fears with others, you will learn that others have similar or different fears, but we are all facing our demons.

The knowledge that others are going or have gone through a similar journey, somehow makes us feel less alone, less powerless, and give us hope that the future will be better.
