How to Make Your Business Premises More Welcoming

Running a business involves managing clients, projects, employees, and the focus of this article, real estate. Whether you own your business premises or you rent the property, it’s vital to make sure that your offices or workspace is as welcoming as possible.

You want people to want to be there, whether they are customers, shareholders, visitors, or your employees. So here are some ways to improve your business premises and make them a better place to spend time in.

Boosting Morale

First, let’s tackle the most important reason to focus on your business premises. Depending on your industry, you might have a customer-facing business. This means that customers will walk into your premises and spend time there, either to buy products or to receive a service like eating a meal.

It makes sense in these situations to have a great workplace so that clients and customers are happier to spend their time there. But what if you don’t have a customer-facing premises? 

It’s still important to focus on making sure the place looks nice and is comfortable. This is because your employees spend all day there and, believe it or not, looking after your employees is the same thing as looking after your company.

Safety At Work

One of the most important responsibilities of an employer is to make sure that their employees are safe when they’re at work. This is especially true if your company is in a dangerous industry like construction, but every business should keep its workers safe. 

For starters, it’s a good idea to have a safety officer and someone who is trained in first aid at work all the time. This way, they can deal with any emergencies if they do crop up. Speaking of emergencies, you should also have an evacuation plan in place so that your employees can leave if there’s a fire or another disaster. 

Become familiar with local health and safety guidelines. This way, you prove that your company isn’t liable if someone gets injured while working. Failing to do this has caused some companies to fail outright due to court cases and legal costs. 

Even in relatively safe environments like offices, make sure that spills are dealt with quickly and that walkways don’t have any trip hazards. These prevent problems from happening in the first place, reducing cost and improving productivity. Besides, your employees will prefer to feel safe and looked after while at work. 

A Clean Environment 

On a similar note, you should think about ways to keep your work premises clean. An unhygienic workplace is an unhappy workplace. 

Without good hygiene guidelines, your employees are far more likely to get sick. While it’s sometimes impractical to give everyone sick leave, think about other options. Could employees work from home if they have a communicable disease? 

While Covid-19 restrictions are a thing of the past, it’s still in an employer’s best interest to reduce the spread of sickness in the office. Sick employees don’t work as well as healthy employees. 

One great way to encourage good hygiene is to make it easy for people to keep themselves clean and clean the area around them. Provide wet wipes where people can find them and clean up after themselves. 

It’s also a good idea to hire a cleaning service. This is especially important in the healthcare industry because poor hygiene can threaten lives. While this is an added expense, it’s the best way to keep things clean and nice. 

Comfort and Productivity 

If you want people to be more productive, it’s best to provide them with an environment that is easy to work in. If you’re not sure about how to do this, it can be helpful to speak to your employees who have to work everyday in the office. What would they do to improve it?

If your employees work from desks, think about the seats and desk setup. Make sure the monitors are at eye level with your workers so they aren’t looking down or up. You should also provide seats that have appropriate back support. 

It’s also a good idea to make sure that your employees are able to have plenty of breaks. While it seems counterproductive, breaks actually improve how productive your employees are. They’re happier and better rested for it, which means that they can work more effectively. 

As well as having different opportunities to have breaks, give your employees a comfortable place to sit, eat, and rest.
