Spoiler alert: We are all going to die. That’s the end. But until we die, what are we going to do to make the middle more interesting? Are we going to repeat the same day a thousand times, or are we going to live a life rich with different adventures?
The way to create a more interesting life is to develop your curiosity, always try doing new things, seek experiences, and diversity of choices.
To live a fuller life, I suggest a few approaches:
- Don’t be afraid to try something new: One of the things that hold us back is the fear of failure. If we start by taking little risks, eventually our tolerance to try something new will increase, and all of a sudden, you will be experimenting with activities that are outside your comfort zone.
- Cultivate Relationships: We are social animals; we thrive and are happiest when we are among other people. Every time you spend in the company of family, friends, or in networking groups such as Solopreneurs Montreal, your live becomes more interesting.
- Personal Growth and Learning: Learning new things enhances our chances of survival, from the time we were cavemen to the present. Those who didn’t learn the difference between an edible plant and a poisonous plant most likely died. Today, those who are not constantly learning earn less and have a less rewarding social life.
- Contributions to Others: Helping others creates a sense of belonging and reduces isolation. Helping others is one of the ways that people create, maintain, and strengthen their social connections. As a photographer, I do a lot of volunteer jobs. I contribute in our neighborhood during festivals. I also volunteer my time at some non-profit networking events.
- Creative Expression: Engaging in creative activities is fun. Things like writing, dancing, taking photos, acting, painting, playing music, are ways in which we can express ourselves and maybe influence others. In the past, I have been a dance teacher, a painter, a photographer, a writer. Art makes us feel alive.
To make our lives in the middle more interesting, we
have to be proactive, take initiative. Instead of waiting for experiences to come to us, we have to actively seek the role we want to play.
