This winter, there is a cocktail of viruses floating around our communities; COVID, the flu, and the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).
In an effort to reduce the amount of people going to the hospital, the government of Quebec, has made the Flu vaccine free to everyone. I already got my free vaccine.
Traditionally, only at-risk groups could get vaccine for free, but now it’s free for everyone effective immediately.
Previously, Quebecers who were not deemed at-risk for serious complications from influenza had to pay out-of-pocket to receive the flu shot.
The free campaign is an exceptional measure for this year, amid heavy traffic in the province’s emergency room.
Those factors, combined with the imminent arrival of the holiday season, justified expanding access to the vaccine against influenza.
The decision was made after consultations with public health authorities.
The statement said that those who have already paid for the vaccine will not be reimbursed.
It’s my opinion that the vaccine should be FREE for everyone all the time.
