Easy Ways To Make Your Business More Eco-Friendly

Going green offers an array of benefits for businesses. Studies suggest that consumers are more likely to choose sustainable, eco-friendly brands than ever and embracing environmentally friendly ways of working can also save money. If you’re keen to do your bit for the planet, here are some easy ways to make your business more eco-friendly.

Greener travel

Many businesses utilize vehicles or fleets to deliver products, provide services for customers or enable employees to get from A to B. If your employees commute to work, or you use vehicles to provide products or services for clients, consider greener ways to get around. You could consider more flexible working arrangements, including remote working to reduce travel, swap petrol or diesel cars for electric vehicles, or switch to delivery companies that use efficient journey planning and green vehicles to lower emissions. It’s also beneficial to think about cutting out unnecessary journeys. Technology enables us to meet virtually and attend events without actually being there in person. Video conferences and virtual events can save employees time and effort and lower business expenses while also reducing your carbon footprint.

Recycling

Recycling is a simple, effective way to reduce waste and contribute to the circular economy. Instead of throwing trash or items you don’t use anymore into landfill sites, look into commercial recycling services and encourage your employees and customers to recycle everyday products. You can recycle cardboard, glass, metal, paper and plastic on-site and work with companies to recycle electronic goods and computers. It’s also an excellent idea to try to reuse or repurpose items that still have life left in them. A good example is upcycling office furniture or tables and chairs used in restaurants, bars or entertainment venues. If you don’t want furniture anymore, you could also donate it to charitable organizations or other businesses.

Lowering energy consumption

Energy prices are rising, and this is a major concern for companies and organizations across all industries. Lowering energy consumption is important for two key reasons. Firstly, it reduces your carbon footprint. Secondly, it can help you to save money on your energy bills. Use a smart meter to track usage, set a thermostat to control the temperature and use smart technology to optimize energy efficiency. Insulate your business premises to improve heat retention, turn devices and appliances off at the socket and use energy-efficient lighting. Switch the lights off when you leave the room and save energy in communal spaces by installing motion sensors. It’s also a brilliant idea to collect and reuse rainwater and explore renewable energy systems, such as solar power. If your business is based in an area that gets a lot of sunshine, you could save a fortune on your energy bills and lower your carbon footprint dramatically.
