There is a huge backlash against billionaires. I think a big part of the backlash is pure envy.
As I see a list of the most popular billionaires in the U.S. two things are obvious:
- Their billions were not given to them, they created their own fortune
- They have created enormous benefits for the global society.
Jeff Bezos founder of Amazon. Jeff has created thousands of jobs, has catapulted e commerce to the forefront of the consumer economy. He also created the platform for many other smaller Amazon millionaires.
I am not a big Amazon shopper nor a Prime member and I always try to give my business to all the small little stores in my neighbourhood, but as a consumer, I feel so happy knowing that when a product is not available close to me, I can always order it from Amazon.
The Google Boys: Sergey Brin and Larry Page: I haven’t met one person yet who doesn’t benefit from the Google product and services. My heart is full of gratitude for the generosity of these two entrepreneurs. From my Gmail, Google News, and Google podcast. Not to mention the amazing search engine.
A lot of people like to criticize Google while using their search engine. They can always use Bing or Yahoo, but of course, they don’t they just like to criticize.
Elon Musk: I haven’t benefited directly from any of Elon Musk’s products/services, but he’s changing the world. He has forced all the automobile industries to develop their electric vehicles, and thus reducing global warming. In addition, he’s sending rockets to space every week. Finally, he’s a self-made billionaire.
These billionaires wake up every day thinking about how to change the world for the better. Their main motivation is not to be billionaires. Their main motivation is to continue improving society.
I think we have a big debt of gratitude to these people who continue improving the world.
